Capstone Change Project Evaluation And Dissemination

The capstone project change proposal will be presented to an interprofessional group of leaders. A final summary of the reflective journal entries will allow students to self-reflect on the process of developing an evidence-based change proposal. Students will apply concepts related to self-awareness, synthesis, and integration of new knowledge and skills in their nursing practice.

Objectives:

1. Present the capstone project change proposal to an interprofessional group of leaders.

2. Demonstrate interprofessional collaboration in the dissemination of the capstone project change proposal.

3. Demonstrate achievement of the course objectives in the written completion of the Individual Success Plan (ISP).

4. Integrate self-reflective practice in summarizing the practicum reflective journal entries.

DQ 1

Dissemination of EBP and research, such as presenting results at a conference or writing an article for a journal, is an important part of professional practice. Identify one professional journal and one nursing or health care conference where you might present your project. Discuss why each of your choices is the best option for you to disseminate your new knowledge.

DQ 2

Discuss why EBP is an essential component of the practice of a BSN-prepared RN. Identify two ways in which you will continue to integrate evidence into your practice and encourage it within your work environment. What obstacles could challenge this plan, and what steps will you take to minimize their impact?

Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal

March, 14-20,2021: Journal Entry Week 1

I met with my preceptor this week and we went over our goals for the next 9 weeks. we discussed many topics and possible topics for my change project that is to be worked on over the next 9 weeks of this course. My Mentor and narrow our topic down to 4 topics that may be used for my change project and how we may be able to develop new practice approaches, the topics are : Healthcare Workplace Stress, Nursing Burnout, , Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers. Type 2 Diabetes and Osteoarthritis.

My Mentor taught me that new practice approaches include searching for new solutions to issues in different areas of nursing practice. My Mentor had wonderful insight as to what needs to be done and how to search for proper evidence-based practice articles that were of sound information and were peer reviewed. We spoke about tools to use, and what needs to be considered as I determined new practice approaches to address different issues in health care.

Week 2 (March 21-27)

This week, my anxiety level drops down a little bit from how scary and anxious I was from my first week of capstone class. I met my preceptor and we discussed my goals of the course for the next 8 weeks. We researched on many sub topics and narrowed down to concerns that reflects the community and how to develop new practice approaches. My mentor and I deliberated on goals and objectives for my change project. Searching for a variety of solutions to different challenges in various nursing practice is one of the new approaches I learnt from my mentor. I Successfully Completed and submitted my reflective journal with the progress made over the week, the chosen topics and the objectives that were met over the week.

Week 3 (March 28-April 2nd)

For this week, I was required to submit the previously researched peer reviewed articles together with their weaknesses and strengths. We used to compare and contrast methods to discuss various methods of evidence evaluation. I also submitted the PICOT paper for assessment by my mentor. I would wish to learn more on a variety of ideas on how to handle papers in days to come. The ability to identify peer reviewed articles and selecting the best among the articles to fit the PICOT was among the solutions I learnt. I also took my time to reflect on various ethical aspects concerning healthcare. I noticed that in most occasions, ethical challenges in healthcare makes nurses to struggle while providing patient’s care. The

Disseminating the results of our projects with other nurses is essential and can be done via a nursing or healthcare conference or by writing an article for a journal. Conferences are critical to keeping up to date with the latest developments in knowledge and evidence-based practice (De Juan Pardo et al., 2021). Attending conferences is also beneficial for nurses because they get the opportunity to engage with other nurses in their related fields. Because the goal of my project is to reduce the incidents of healthcare-acquired infections, the conference that would be most appropriate would be the “International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases 2022”. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) hosts this conference which brings more than 1500 public health professionals to encourage the exchange of information about the emergence, spread, and control of infectious diseases (CDC, 2022).

Another way of disseminating the results of our projects is through publication. Various journals interest me and target my intended audience; nurses. The American Journal of Nursing (AJN) is evidence-based and peer-reviewed. This journal is the oldest and most honored broad-based nursing journal (AJN, 2020). I have been reading this journal since I began my nursing career, and one can find various topics related to infection control.

Presenting the capstone information to a journal and conference will be important. The journal of choice would be the “Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN)” journal. This is the best option to disseminate my new knowledge because the main audience of this journal is medical-surgical nurses. This journal offers nurses the ability to received evidence-based practice and new education (AMSN, 2022). Thus, this would be the perfect place for nurses to receive information on best practice regarding ambulating post-operative patients. The nursing conference that would be most appropriate for my project would be the “2023 WIN Conference.” This conference focuses on the use of new technology with regards to evidence-based research (Western Institute of Nursing, 2022). This conference would be best because the discussion of the lift device regarding early mobility could be beneficial for other nurses to acquire. Not all hospitals have this technology, but with collaboration, it may be possible for them to obtain it. Both the journal and the conference will be helpful in spreading the new knowledge obtained in
